Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Pune was established in year 2011 by Ministry of Home affairs, Government of India under the administrative control of Directorate of Forensic Science Services, New Delhi. The sole aim of this organisation is to provide a scientific backbone to judiciary for strengthening Justice delivery system in country. Over the last eight years , the laboratory has made conscious and concerned efforts to emerge as premier organisation in the country and consolidate its achievements in the form of a magnanimous CFSL campus spread across 30 acres of land at Nanoli Tarfe Chakan and procurement of latest art of technology equipment.
The laboratory will cater to the need of all central government agencies, courts of law, autonomous bodies, public sectors, banks and states and union territories under its notified jurisdiction i.e Maharashtra , Gujarat, Goa, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli .
At present the laboratory is accepting cases in eight (8) fully active disciplines i.e Ballistics, Biology, DNA Testing, Chemistry, Narcotics, Documents, Digital Forensics and Physics. Other disciplines such as Forensic Psychology, Forensic Engineering, Explosives, Toxicology and Forensic Intelligence will be established very soon in phased manner.
Research is the backbone of any Scientific Institution. Scientists of CFSL Pune are actively engaged in research activities in thrust areas of forensics to meet new challenges in scientific manner. CFSL Pune encourages the universities and other academic institutions to become part of research projects of CFSL Pune. Sharing of knowledge, ideas and facilities is always welcome.
As a scientist, I believe that understanding of application of education is imperative to bridge the gap between theory and practical by getting hands-on training. In order to achieve this, National Forensic Science Academy (NFSA) has been established along with CFSL laboratory by MHA to provide long term and short term training in chemical sciences. Theoretical and case dependent practical application training will be provided to all fresh forensic recruits, investigating agencies, police officers, public prosecutors and judiciary. I understand that this endeavour will go a long way in not just helping the stake holders to understand the complexities of forensic science but also to induct them in professional world with sound knowledge which ultimately helps in the holistic development of forensic science in the country.
As the laboratory and academy is in naive stage, it places an extraordinary responsibility on the scientists of CFSL Pune to deliver More from Less for More. We are eager to achieve the high targets and to compete our International competitors in terms of reporting of cases in minimum time, research, innovation and training by optimum use of available resources.
I take this opportunity to invite all the stakeholders and in general my countrymen to periodically visit our website and provide their valuable suggestions along with honest feedback for updating our skills and to serve the Nation more effectively.
