The Central Forensic Science Laboratory Pune, under the administrative control of the Directorate of Forensic Science Services, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. Of India, New Delhi is established under XIIth Five Year Plan Scheme of Directorate of Forensic Science Services entitled ‘Establishment of new CFSL’s, Expansion and Modernization of existing CFSL’s of DFSS. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Pune is established for the forensic examination of various crime exhibits by using conventional and sophisticated instrumental methods. The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved setting up of CFSL at Pune and it has been published in the Gazette of India, August 10, 2013. The Govt. of Maharashtra allotted 12 hectare (30 Acre) land at Nanoli tarfe Chakan, Maval, Pune District in 2011.
The construction work of CFSL building has been awarded to the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), New Delhi and the construction work has been carried out by the NBCC Pune Division at Nanoli tarfe Chakan, Gatt. No.6, Maval, Pune. The functioning of CFSL, Pune has been started in the hired building at 38/4, Krishna Complex, Kharadi Bypass, Kharadi, Pune in 2011 itself for the examination of cases feasible with the available infrastructure & resources. On completition of construction work of new premise, Laboratory shifted to new primise at Gat No.6, Nanoli Tarfe Chakan, Talegaon MIDC, Near JCB Factory, Taluka: Maval, Pune 410 507,Maharashtra since December 2020

A piece of land measuring about (12 hectares) 30 acres has been allotted by the Govt. of Maharashtra at the Nanoli tarfe Chakan, Gatt. No.6, Taluka Maval, Distt. Pune. The construction of the CFSL building has been started in 2014. The building is G + 1 structure which are divided in the five blocks. The CFSL, Pune will have facilities of emerging forensic technologies like DNA profiling, Digital Forensics, Forensic Psychology, etc.
This Laboratory also provides the training and awareness programs for police, medico-legal experts and judiciary and assist the Investigating Officers in incidence response in respect of hi-tech crimes. The scientific services will be provided to generate the required impetus to assist criminal justice delivery system by having highly trained human resource, state-of-the art facilities projecting areas for adopting latest technology.
The mission of the new hi-tech Central Forensic Science Laboratory at Pune is to give a filling with creation of state-of-art facilities with many new divisions for crime investigation providing a sound investigative establishment for the criminal justice delivery system for helping investigating agencies of central and peripheral state governments to avail the best of analytical/examination facilities of their crime exhibits. The CFSL, Pune will cater to the needs of all Central Govt. Agencies, Higher/Lower Courts, Autonomous bodies, Public Sector Undertakings, Banks & respective States/Union Territories under the notified jurisdiction of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and will play vital role in helping criminal justice system in solving crime/civil cases.
